What makes a power window safe?
Imagine a car window closing while a passenger’s hand is in the gap. The motor keeps pushing because an electronic control has failed.
Start with the person who could be hurt.
In this example, the team wants the window to stop and reverse before it injures a hand. They need to decide how the system should respond to a fault, then test whether that response works in time.
That’s the idea behind functional safety. Engineers identify how a malfunction could harm someone and gather evidence that their design reduces the risk.
